Most children and young people have a natural ‘feeling’ for the stage – acting and playing around are a natural part of the growing up process. To succeed in the performing arts however, these instincts have to be honed by the right, professional teachers.
C.A.T.S. is enormously privileged to be able to call on the teaching and performing experience of our 9 regular teachers. From time to time we also invite other leading teachers from across the U.K to visit the school – ensuring classes are constantly interesting and diverse in nature.
They are led by School Principal, Eve Trew, who is a life member of the Royal Academy of Dancing and a Fellow of the International Dance Teachers Association. She is an international examiner and adjudicator of dance and with over 50 years experience behind her has built up a deserved reputation as one of the regions leading authorities on dance and choreography.
Past students have even gone onto train at the Royal Ballet School and other leading London companies. Many have performed on stage both here and overseas – a testament to the calibre of teaching these students receive.
While C.A.T.S. is geared towards being a fun environment we believe that if classes are to be of a real benefit they must be structured and disciplined. To this end, we encourage good behaviour, manners and respect for each other.
Classes are held every Saturday morning and the quality of teaching has been enhanced by our ability to tutor the children in their own age groups – similar to a normal school day.
The 3 hour morning class sees the children learning a wide range of skills from their qualified and caring teachers. These teachers are some of the best in the North East and will tutor your children in:
Best of all, not only do the children learn these specific skills but they also -as a result of the friendly yet disciplined manner in which their learning is conducted – acquire many other vital life skills such as poise, confidence and communicative ability.
At the end of each 12 week term the school holds an open morning where all the parents and friends of the pupils get the chance to marvel at the skills they’ve acquired. Once a year a full length stage show, replete with professional costumes, scenery, lights and music, is held at the Dryden Theatre which all the students participate in.
This year we have obtained the rights to perform the very popular Disney High School Musical for the first time in this area.
C.A.T.S. also actively encourages students to audition for parts in other productions which has resulted in many of them winning roles in different theatres across the North East Region. Indeed some of our children have even appeared in T.V. and cinema advertising.
